Dr. Tom McCawley has served the Fort Lauderdale community for over 50 years, combining compassionate care with groundbreaking innovation in periodontics.
A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Dentistry, he earned his specialty degree in Periodontics from Boston University and is a past president of both the Florida Association of Periodontists and the Broward County Dental Society.
Nationally recognized for his expertise in periodontal microbiology and laser therapy, Dr. McCawley co-authored four major studies on LANAP®, including landmark research proving the laser’s ability to kill disease-causing bacteria in deep gum pockets. He has presented this work to leading organizations including the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Academy of Dental Research, and the North American Society of Periodontists.
He continues to lecture nationwide on “Periodontics for the 21st Century,” focusing on the science of microbiology, antibiotic therapy, and minimally invasive treatment for gum disease. As a co-editor of The Periodontal Letter and author of several patient and personal development books, Dr. McCawley remains committed to educating both patients and professionals.
