Founder of the McCawley Center and Pioneer in Laser Periodontal Therapy

Dr. Tom McCawley has served the Fort Lauderdale community for over 50 years, combining compassionate care with groundbreaking innovation in periodontics.

A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Dentistry, he earned his specialty degree in Periodontics from Boston University and is a past president of both the Florida Association of Periodontists and the Broward County Dental Society.

Nationally recognized for his expertise in periodontal microbiology and laser therapy, Dr. McCawley co-authored four major studies on LANAP®, including landmark research proving the laser’s ability to kill disease-causing bacteria in deep gum pockets. He has presented this work to leading organizations including the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Academy of Dental Research, and the North American Society of Periodontists.

He continues to lecture nationwide on “Periodontics for the 21st Century,” focusing on the science of microbiology, antibiotic therapy, and minimally invasive treatment for gum disease. As a co-editor of The Periodontal Letter and author of several patient and personal development books, Dr. McCawley remains committed to educating both patients and professionals.

I was recommended to Dr Mark McCawley from a local dentist whom they frequently work together on cases. Brittany in the office is fantastic. She is so kind and responsive and made the whole process much easier with her great communication and personality. Dr Mark and his entire staff who assisted were fabulous as well. I had an implant placed, gum grafting and the LANAP procedure all done at once. The procedure itself was a breeze, I was awake the whole time and it was a lot easier than I had anticipated. The healing part is more serious than I had expected with the stitches and food restrictions however the entire team is fabulous and I’m confident in how amazing this will heal. I have no pain and so impressed with how gentle Dr. Mark is. It went smoothly, I was sleepy for most of the procedure and went home, relaxed a bit and caught up with some paperwork. I appreciate the expertise his assistant Adriana displayed, she was very communicative, gentle and a joy to have by my side in surgery. This office is the best!

From beginning to end, the staff answered all questions and put me at ease. The procedure went well and the follow up appointments went smoothly. Extremely knowledgeable and professional staff. Extra special shout out to Tori, the dental hygienist! She really did a great job calming me down before my procedure and has done an excellent job with my follow up care.
